A highlight of 2024 has been the continued success of our Connector Sessions. These networking talks & seminars are co-hosted with the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) and aim to connect thought leaders with our business community and spark valuable discussion. Sessions explore a range of topics, covering everything from emerging trends to practical strategies for growth. This year, we welcomed experts from various fields, including:

Dr. Eric Morse speaking at “Growing Your Business and Innovation & Entrepreneurship” at Western Research Parks.
- Dr. Eric Morse (January 2024): Executive Director of the Western Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship and Special Advisor to the President at Western University. In his session “Growing Your Business and Innovation & Entrepreneurship in the Region,” Dr. Morse shared advice for entrepreneurs on scaling their businesses and innovating in the local ecosystem.
- Daria (Dasha) Krivonos (April 2024): CEO of the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies. She hosted a virtual session titled “Uncertainty is a Feature, Not a Bug.” In it, Dasha offered strategies for embracing uncertainty, which can drive innovation and growth. She urged businesses to stay agile, focus on megatrends, and leverage uncertainty to succeed.

Celebrating the success of our business community at Western Research Parks.
In 2024, one of the most rewarding aspects has been the continued success of our business community. This year, we saw some remarkable achievements, including:
- Deep Breathe won first place at the US Army’s xTech International 2024 , a major milestone for this innovative MedTech AI company.
- EpiSign secured $7.55M in funding to expand their work in genetic testing.
- Nurdanpinar Solutions for Human Performance hosted a well-received workshop at Western Research Parks on “Master Adaptability in a World of Disruption.”
- ElioMedica, along with Vessl Prosthetics and BioNext, hosted an “Ask Anything MedTech” session at Western Research Parks, providing insights for fellow startups.

While we welcomed new companies to Western Research Parks this year, including OpenText Developer, ATMA CENA, I-RNA, and The Harbour, we also saw Archetype BioMedical, JSI Advanced Therapeutics, and Maman BioMedical come and go, contributing briefly to the vibrancy of our innovation ecosystem during their time with us.
We also bid farewell to some valued community members. Orca, a former Western Research Parks member, won the Medium Business of the Year Award at the London Chamber of Commerce’s 41st Annual Business Achievement Awards. This recognition highlights its journey, and the entrepreneurial spirit cultivated within our community.
After more than a decade as an anchor company at Western Research Parks, ARLANXEO transitioned and has left our business community, marking the end of an era. ARLANXEO, a global leader in synthetic rubber, has been a valued business member and partner since 2010. Through collaborations and insights, ARLANXEO has greatly enhanced our innovation ecosystem. While we are sad to see ARLANXEO leave our innovation hub, their departure also creates new opportunities as we work towards reimagining the available space to welcome a new wave of innovative companies.

Community Engagement: Giving Back Through Collaboration
At Western Research Parks, we recognize the importance of giving back. This year, we took several steps to support the wider community:
-

Western Research Parks food donation bin
We donated two full bins of non-perishable items to Food Support Services at Western University, helping students in need. Our ongoing food collection in the lobby continues to show the generosity of our community.
- We’ve also provided our event space, The Connector Suites, free to local groups. These include the London Community Artists and two Western Retirees clubs: the Book Club and the Euchre Club. We are excited to offer our event space to support local organizations!
