WindEEE Dome
The WindEEE (Wind Engineering, Energy and Environment) Dome is the world’s first hexagonal wind chamber, allowing researchers to address scientific, economic, and societal challenges related to wind.
At 25 meters in diameter for the inner dome and 40 meters in diameter for the outer dome, the WindEEE Dome facility can physically simulate high intensity wind systems which cannot be created in any existing wind tunnels.
This Western University facility is at the forefront of international research into how to build structures and cities strong enough to withstand our changing climate. Researchers at the WindEEE Dome can replicate complex wind systems such as tornadoes, downbursts and hurricanes, and use 3-D printed models of buildings and other structures to test resilience against controlled blasts of wind.
