Canada's healthcare AI ecosystem faces two significant barriers: lengthy procurement pathways and increasing concerns around the use of foreign cloud infrastructure for sensitive health data. As organizations look to scale AI responsibly, maintaining Canadian control over data and infrastructure has become a critical priority.
Outpost was created to address these challenges. Built on infrastructure housed at Western Research Parks, it provides a secure, PHIPA-aware, Canadian-hosted environment where healthcare AI can be developed, validated, and advanced while meeting Canadian data residency and sovereign AI requirements.
This work is in active development. A pilot project and steering committee with our regional healthcare partner are being established to define the operational parameters of the sovereign compute sandbox.
